The product line of IOSONO with its mixing tool, mixing console, play out systems, and speaker system follows the formula of Wave Field Synthesis.

In the late 18th century, a mathematician named Christiaan Huygens discovered the formula to re-sample an optical wave into many little fractions.

Two centuries later a group of researchers at the University of Delft, NL set out to adapt Huygen’s principle to sound waves. Wave Field Synthesis describes the re-sampling and super positioning of small sound waves to recreate an original one.

In 1999 a consortium of eight European research institutes and companies embarked upon a three-year initiative to further explore the possibilities of Wave Field Synthesis.

Finally, a small group of researchers, working under the leadership of the Fraunhofer Institute’s re-knowned scientist Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Brandenburg, the primary patent holder of the mp3 format, developed the first WFS product family of audio processing, mixing software, and speaker system. IOSONO was born.
